Water from the tap

Loughrea Rural Group Water Scheme Co-operative Society Ltd is a co-operative registered with the Irish Co-operative Organisation Society (ICOS), registered number 5544R.  It is also affiliated to The National Federation of Group Water Schemes  It is owned by its 461 members who each have a one euro share (€1.00). It is run by a seven person Board of Directors and is managed on a day-to-day basis by a part-time manager, Francis Cunningham.  Our registered office is at Aille, Loughrea, Co Galway.

We serve mostly the parish of Kilnadeema, but also parts of the parishes of Leitrim, Loughrea, Kilchreest and Kilconieron.  

The water is taken from Loughrea lake where it is treated and pumped to a reservoir at Earlspark.  From there it serves the following areas (see map):

  • From the lake along the Woodford road to Aille Cross, Leitrim school and Dalystown.
  • From Aille Cross to Ballinlawless and Knockash.
  • From Aille Cross to Kilnadeema Cross to Curhoor
  • From the reservoir to Earlspark, Grange and Kilnadeema Cross
  • From Kilnadeema Cross to Birroge, Glenaclara and Caheratrim
  • From Glenaclara to Curheen, Cahercrea, Tullagh Hill, Raheen and Ballingarry

There is more than 37 km of pipes along these roads, with 500 individual connections.
